All about ME!

I love making art out of unusual and recycled objects because I love helping people see things in a new. In my art and in my teaching, I love finding the potential that others might ignore.

I want to show students that, with a little hard work and a lot of creativity,  anything is possible!

The posts on this site highlight some of the experiences that creativity and perseverance have made possible. Want to see more? Check out my "art teacher" Instagram (Mrs.B_in_TN) or click on my photo to see more of my artwork.

This first artwork was for a Historical Society fundraiser.
The challenge was to make something out of materials that they had from old houses.
The frame was a fireplace surround and the center of the flower is a glass lamp shade.

The newspaper dress was for a Fashion Week contest sponsored by the Knoxville News Sentinel.

I chose the Tennessee Iris as my inspiration but also wanted to showcase the News Sentinel logo.

A mixed media piece for the Art Slam, a live art contest.
Contestants only had 3 hours and everyone got the exact same canvas to start.
I made a mixed media dogwood branch and won first place. I started by glueing strips of cardboard to the canvas so that my art instantly looked different than the others.  The flowers are made from recycled maps and the letters are all "spare parts" from other projects.

I made this mixed media self portrait as an example for a project my students were doing. I wanted them to create a self-portrait that included a personal narrative.
I snapped a photo of myself after I had been on the phone with my insurance company for a LONG time! The background added to the story I was crafting of a busy mom with a lot on her mind.

A mixed media sculpture that started with a chess piece, featuring found objects.
